in afghanistan. i was only help -- hopeful to lead a small sample of those downrange, to look them in the eye and let them know how much i appreciate what they and their families do for our country. looking forward i knew that it would be very difficult for me to express my feelings for these young men and women, in a way that would allow me to get through this speech. a personal message from me to all of the servicemen and women across the world was published and distributed in the military channel. i will just say that here -- i will think of these young warriors, the ones who fought and keep on fighting, and those who never made it back until the end of my days. and as i was contemplating this moment i thought about something becky told me in january 2005 when i was as to the first director of national intelligence. i was wrestling with this decision and i told her she could make it easier if she said she did not want to go back to washington. she said, you have to do what you have to do. this is

them bill you know the afghanistan or could they certainly don't report. michael i know you are a veteran why do you think that means our feeling seeing the departure of robert gates is there hope that anything will change adding something he was a leaves washington he leaves his position very well respected by a lot of people certainly much more so than his predecessor but i'm wondering michael what you think that friends like yourself are thinking today. well veterans like myself people who have been sent to fight and die and lose limbs and to commit crimes against people that are not our enemies those who are in the military today i don't think we're at all honoring robert gates in service because you know he's never done a foot patrol in helmand province you never gone on a convoy in iraq but he's ordered lots of us to do it with great bloodshed as a result the reality is the war in afghanistan is not about al qaeda the war in iraq it's not about national defense or freeing the iraqi people these are wars for empire but they're not our empire it's not

every day, every day, repeated the, we read about fraud in afghanistan, iraq, pakistan, and now the congress wants us, after giving away our jobs, not fair trade, free trade agreements -- now they want to go back and give them away with korea. i cannot believe the direction that this country has gone in. we keep talking about corporate tax rates. that is the key word. "rate." they are not paying 35%. they are paying 4%, 6%, 9%, and i am making up the difference. the irs is after a relative of mine who lost their job. they owe them $5,000. karzei and his brother have walked off with billions of dollars and our congress cannot seem to stop it. guest: well, there is a lot there. obviously, a lot of these countries, and it is very disappointing to see fraud and hopefully over time it will go down, i do not want to make any excuses for it because there are no excuses for that activity. a lot of these countries do not have the same developed a rule of law that we have over here. even in our country, there have been instances of fraud and bribery and things like that. there were huge problems in it
